The YWCA of Vermont's Camp Hochelaga has provided a summer camp for girls of all ages since 1919. Campers aged 5-17 experience opportunities for leadership, growth, and development in a fun and supportive setting. Our traditions, activities and programs provide a structure to explore and appreciate the outdoor environment. The general camp focus allows campers to select activities from a wide variety of options, providing the chance to build on previously learned skills, or to try something completely new.
Our location in South Hero, VT is just 30 minutes north of Burlington. Our sheltered cove of Lake Champlain is the perfect spot for developing swimming and small craft boating skills. Other areas of programming include Arts and Crafts, Drama, Outdoor Living Skills/Nature and Landsports including tennis and archery.
Developing skills through activities is just one piece of a Hochelaga experience. Girls learn how to meet, live and work with other girls their age, with the guidance of caring counselors, helping to develop their independence in a setting away from home or school. Many of our counselors "grew up" at camp and continue to share their love for Hochelaga with a new generation of campers. Memories of these experience and the friendships formed and cultivated at camp will last a lifetime.
Camp Hochelaga is the only YWCA owned and operated residential, girls-only summer camp left in the country! We also operate a day camp at the same site for girls who may not quite be ready for an overnight experience. We are proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association and member of the Vermont Camping Association. We look forward to having you join us along the shores of Lake Champlain and being a part of the Hochelaga Community.
The mission of the YWCA of VT through Camp Hochelaga is to provide opportunities for women and girls to develop new skills, explore interests, take on leadership roles, and gain a sense of awareness and interconnectedness with nature.
